Softball defeats Huntington in CL Tournament

UPLAND, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University softball team defeated Huntington University 12-2 in the Crossroads League Tournament on Wednesday.
 
Spring Arbor raced out to a five-run lead after the first two innings and cruised to the victory. Three Cougars recorded three hits, including Summer Ambler and Grace Luby, who both homered on the afternoon.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • For the second straight day, Spring Arbor jumped on top in the first inning plating a pair of runs on a base hit by Kennadi Killeen.
  • A two-RBI double by Brooke Meeker highlighted a three-run second inning to give SAU a 5-0 advantage.
  • Spring Arbor led 8-1 after six innings before exploding for four more runs in the seventh. Grace Luby hit her first collegiate home run to get the inning started. Four batters later, Summer Ambler hit a three-run bomb – her 11th of the campaign.
  • Ambler was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and four runs scored while Meeker was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Luby went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Elaina Walker and Payton Grange registered two hits apiece.
  • Emilee Underwood was outstanding on the way to earning her 14th victory of the season. She gave up one unearned run on two hits and struck out five. Ava Poulson added an inning of relief and fanned one batter.
