Softball battles in road doubleheader against No. 13 IWU

MARION, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University softball team fought hard against nationally ranked Indiana Wesleyan University on Thursday afternoon but came up short in both games of the doubleheader. The No. 13 Wildcats rallied late to deal the Cougars a 4-2 defeat in Game 1 and held on to win Game 2 by a 4 -1 scoreline.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Summer Ambler drove in Elaina Walker with a double, and she would eventually come around to score on a wild pitch.
  • Emilee Underwood held the high-powered Indiana Wesleyan offense to just one run through five innings. However, the Wildcats were able to breakthrough for three runs in the sixth to escape with the victory.
  • Ambler and Walker finished with two hits apiece to lead the Cougars.
 
 
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Indiana Wesleyan scored in each of the first three innings to build a 4-0 lead.
  • The Cougars pushed one run across in the sixth inning, but that was as close as they would get.
  • Ambler collected two more hits while Walker and Payton Grange each recorded a double.
  • SAU pitcher Ava Poulson tossed a complete game, holding the Wildcats to four runs on seven hits.
