Softball splits Saturday games with USF

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University softball team split a pair of games with the University of Saint Francis at the Cougar Softball Field on Saturday.
 
The Cougars won the first game of the twinbill 5-0 behind a complete game, shutout performance from Emilee Underwood while Saint Francis took the nightcap 6-2 to avoid being swept in the doubleheader.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Pitcher Emilee Underwood turned in her third shutout of the season holding Saint Francis to just four hits on the afternoon while striking out six batters.
  • Taylor Clark led the way offensively with three hits, including an RBI double in the fourth inning. Clark finished with two RBIs and two runs scored. Kennadi Killeen also drove in a pair while Underwood had two hits and scored once.
 
 
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Saint Francis took an early lead scoring three in the first inning on a two-out, bases clearing double.
  • Spring Arbor got two runs back in the third inning to get within one. Clark had an RBI hit and Killeen followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home Brooke Meeker.
  • Saint Francis added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings and would hold on to split the doubleheader.
  • Summer Ambler collected three hits and scored.
  • SAU pitcher Ava Poulson settled in after the first inning and pitched four shutout frames from the second through fifth innings. She finished with six strikeouts.
