Cougars’ Defense Smothers MVNU in 75-35 Win

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 18 ranked Spring Arbor University women's basketball team turned in a dominant performance from start to finish, defeating Mount Vernon Nazarene University 75-35 on Saturday afternoon inside the McDonald Athletic Center.

The win improves the Cougars to 18-4 overall and 9-3 in Crossroads League play – just one game back of the league-leaders.

Spring Arbor set the tone early, opening the game on an 18-0 run and never looking back. The Cougars' defense continued to shine, holding MVNU to a season-low point total and limiting the visitors to just 24 percent shooting from the field.

SAU also forced 23 turnovers, converting them into 21 points on the offensive end, while controlling the game throughout.

Thirteen different Cougars reached the scoring column, led by Megan Zeitz with 14 points. Ashley Weller followed with 11 points while Rachel Reichard added nine and Alayna Kulesza chipped in seven.

Spring Arbor will hit the road next, traveling to Grace College for another Crossroads League matchup on Wednesday, Feb. 1, with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m.
