HUNTINGTON, Ind. – No. 20 Spring Arbor University battled back from an early two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with Huntington University on Wednesday night.
Spring Arbor moved to 8-1-3 overall and 0-1-2 in Crossroads League play, while Huntington moved to 3-4-2 and 0-1-2.
Huntington grabbed the early advantage with a pair of first-half goals. Daniel Ojedayo opened the scoring in the sixth minute off an assist from Micah Colvin before Godslove Mensah doubled the Foresters' lead in the 24th minute.
The Cougars cut into the deficit before halftime. In the 41st minute,
Micah Vasey found
Pedro Rosa, who put away his second goal of the season to make it 2-1 heading into the break.
Spring Arbor continued to search for the equalizer in the second half and finally broke through in the 76th minute.
Warre Mondelaers set up Vasey, who found the back of the net to pull the Cougars even at 2-2.
SAU nearly completed the comeback moments later.
Ian Lama put a shot on frame in the 78th minute that was stopped by Huntington goalkeeper Zane Hydock before sending another attempt just wide less than a minute later. The Cougars earned one final corner kick in the 87th minute but were unable to find the go-ahead goal.
Huntington finished with an 8-6 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks, while both teams put three shots on goal.
Tommy Farrell made one save in goal for Spring Arbor. Vasey finished with a goal and an assist, while Rosa added a goal and Mondelaers recorded an assist.
Spring Arbor returns home Saturday, Oct. 3 for its Homecoming matchup against Taylor University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
