MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The No. 16 ranked Spring Arbor University women's basketball team fell 70-62 on the road to Bethel University on Wednesday night, snapping the Cougars' three-game winning streak.
The loss drops SAU to 20-5 overall and 11-4 in Crossroads League play.
The Pilots led wire-to-wire and built a double-digit advantage in the fourth quarter. Spring Arbor refused to go quietly, however. The Cougars mounted one final push late in the game, trimming the deficit to four points at 64-60 with two minutes remaining. Bethel answered at the free throw line down the stretch, converting enough opportunities to keep SAU from completing the comeback.
Megan Zeitz led the Cougars with 16 points while
Ashley Weller added 14.
Alayna Kulesza chipped in 10 points.
The Cougars return home on Saturday, Feb. 14 to host Goshen College at 1 p.m. in their final home game of the regular season. The afternoon will serve as Senior Day, as Spring Arbor honors its four seniors,
Lexi Linder,
Emma Smieska,
Alayna Kulesza, and
Kylie Summer.
