Cougars Move to 4-0 with Doubleheader Sweep of Brescia

HENDERSON, Ky. – The Spring Arbor University softball team moved to a perfect 4-0 on the young season after sweeping a Saturday doubleheader against Brescia University, earning a 7-1 victory in game one and a 10-2 win in game two.

After three scoreless innings in the opener, the Cougars broke through when a sacrifice fly from Grace Lentz brought Brooke Meeker home for the game's first run. SAU added two more in the fifth before erupting for four runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Emilee Underwood. Underwood finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and was equally dominant in the circle, tossing her first complete game of the season. The junior allowed just one run on four hits over seven innings while striking out seven.

In game two, Summer Ambler put Spring Arbor in front with a two-run home run in the third inning. The Cougar offense continued to roll from there, plating multiple runs in each of the final three innings, including a four-run seventh to seal the sweep. Taylor Clark went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, while Matajia Cerroni added two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Alexyn DuBois made her first collegiate start in the circle and delivered six strong innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five. Ava Poulson added a scoreless inning of relief to close it out.

Up next, Spring Arbor heads south to compete in The Space Coast Spring Games in Florida, where the Cougars will play 10 games from Feb. 27 through Mar. 6.
