BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's tennis team earned its second straight victory on Saturday, edging The University of Olivet 4-3.
With the win, the Cougars even their record at 3-3 on the season.
Spring Arbor set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the opening point.
Aaron Kur and
Sam Lyon battled to a 7-6 win at No. 1 while
Fernando Espinosa and
Nolan Hill dominated 6-0 at No. 2.
Joshua Blount and
Zachary Milward capped the sweep with a 6-2 victory in the third flight.
The Cougars carried that momentum into singles play, picking up wins at the top of the lineup. Lyon earned a 6-1, 7-5 decision at No. 1 and Kur followed with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 2. Hill added a straight-set victory at No. 4 (6-3, 6-3), which proved to be the deciding point in the narrow 4-3 team win.
Olivet claimed three singles matches, including a pair of tightly contested three-set battles at No. 3 and No. 6, but Spring Arbor's strong start in doubles ultimately made the difference.
