SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University baseball team completed a four-game sweep of Goshen College on Saturday, taking both ends of a doubleheader by scores of 3-1 and 15-1.
The Cougars have now won six straight games and improve to 7-4 overall with a perfect 4-0 mark in Crossroads League play.
Game One | SAU 3, Goshen 1
Spring Arbor opened the scoring in the third inning, capitalizing on a Goshen error to plate the game's first run.
Jaxon Millican was sharp on the mound, holding the Maple Leafs scoreless through four innings. Goshen managed to even the score with a run in the fifth, but the Cougars answered right back in the sixth to regain the lead for good.
Joey Tessmer led off the inning with a double and came around to score two batters later on a groundout by
Brenden Phillips.
SAU added an insurance run in the eighth when
Zach Adams drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the advantage to 3-1.
Braydon Gregory,
Connor Dee, and
Nate Dutkowski each collected two hits in the win. Millican earned the victory after five strong innings of work.
Jared Plane was dominant out of the bullpen, tossing three perfect innings while striking out six.
Jack Will handled the ninth to secure the save.
Game Two | SAU 15, Goshen 1
The Cougars carried the momentum into game two.
Spring Arbor built a 2-0 lead through four innings before breaking the game open. SAU scored three times in the fifth – highlighted by a two-RBI double from Dee – then erupted for eight runs in the sixth and added two more in the seventh.
Dee finished with four RBIs while
Connor Reed and Tessmer each recorded two hits and scored twice.
Colin Snyder earned the win on the mound, allowing one run over 5.1 innings while striking out eight.
Michael Wambaugh and
Mitchell DuBois combined for 1.2 scoreless innings in relief to close out the sweep.
Spring Arbor will travel to Winona Lake, Indiana next weekend for a four-game series against Grace College on March 6-7.
