Softball Drops Home-Opening Doubleheader to Taylor

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University softball team dropped both games of its home-opening doubleheader Tuesday to Taylor University, falling 3-2 in the opener and 8-0 in the nightcap.

Game One | Taylor 3, SAU 2

Spring Arbor struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Brooke Meeker delivered a two-RBI single to give the Cougars an early 2-0 lead.

Taylor answered in the second inning with a solo home run and later took the lead in the sixth on a two-run homer to move in front 3-2.

The Cougars were unable to generate additional offense, as Meeker's first-inning hit accounted for the team's only runs of the day.

Meeker finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Summer Ambler added a double.

Emilee Underwood took the loss in the circle despite a strong performance, pitching a complete game while allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out four.

Game Two | Taylor 8, SAU 0

Taylor carried its momentum into the second game, scoring three runs over the first two innings to take an early advantage.

The Trojans broke the game open in the fifth inning with five runs.

Taylor pitcher Kaylyn Applegate kept the Cougar bats quiet, tossing a five-inning shutout and limiting Spring Arbor to just two hits.

Spring Arbor is set to travel to Marion, Indiana on Friday, Mar. 13 to take on Indiana Wesleyan University.
