CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Spring Arbor University track & field teams opened the outdoor season Friday and Saturday, competing at the Lee University Invitational in Tennessee and at Indiana Wesleyan University's Polar Bear Classic.
The weekend was highlighted by multiple top finishes and several marks that moved into the program's top-10 lists.
On the men's side,
Damion Scharer turned in a strong performance in the decathlon, placing third with 5,803 points, moving into fourth on SAU's all-time top-10 list. He earned top-3 finishes in five events, including a first place in the 1500, second place in the high jump, second in the discus, second in the javelin and third in the 400.
In the sprints,
Caden Kyser (21.81) and
Quintin Williams (21.85) led the way in the 200 meters, with Williams' mark ranking fourth all-time at SAU while
Elijah Dyer (22.10) moved into eighth on the list.
Kyser also posted a 48.52 in the 400 meters to finish fourth out of more than 40 racers, while Dyer added a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.47, hitting an NAIA B standard.
In the field events,
Caiden Lambers placed fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.90 meters (6' 2.75").
At the Polar Bear Classic,
Chase Hobson highlighted the men's performances by winning the steeplechase with a time of 9:48.
On the women's side,
Allison Teed delivered a standout performance in the heptathlon, finishing third with 4,013 points – good for third on the program's all-time list. Teed also recorded a javelin throw of 34.68 meters within the heptathlon, which ranks third all-time at SAU, while
Tamerah Peterson added a throw of 30.71 meters to move into seventh.
On the track,
Kylie Brown placed fifth in the 200 meters (24.84) and added another fifth-place finish in the 400 meters (59.26).
Tanana Emmendorfer earned a runner-up finish in the 400 with a time of 57.24.
In the jumps,
Alyssa Budd claimed first place in the long jump with a mark of 5.67 meters (18' 7.25").
Up next, Spring Arbor will host the Bill Bippes Cougar Classic on April 10-11.
