SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University baseball team dropped both games of a Crossroads League doubleheader on Friday, falling to Huntington University 18-6 and 4-0 at Hank Burbridge Field.
The Cougars move to 23-17 overall and 17-13 in conference play.
Game one featured a back-and-forth start, with both teams scoring two runs in the opening inning. Spring Arbor took the lead with single runs in the second and third innings, including a solo home run by
Ethan Orlowski, to go up 4-3.
Huntington responded with a six-run fourth inning and added three more in the fifth to take control of the game. The Foresters then plated six runs in the seventh to bring the 10-run rule into effect.
Orlowski led the Cougars at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and a home run.
Joey Tessmer also recorded two hits, while
Connor Reed scored three runs and stole three bases.
In game two, Huntington broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with a two-run home run and added runs in the fourth and seventh to secure the 4-0 win.
Spring Arbor was limited to three hits in the contest.
Colin Snyder went the distance on the mound, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out four over seven innings.
Spring Arbor and Huntington will conclude the series on Saturday, April 18 with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The Cougars will also honor their seven seniors – Seth Austin,
Aiden Brunin,
Jared Plane,
Eli DeVisser,
Zach Adams,
Colin Snyder and
Josh Murphy – prior to the games.
