GOSHEN, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University softball team earned a pair of Crossroads League victories on the road on Tuesday, defeating Goshen College 8-0 and 15-4.
The Cougars improve to 28-20 overall and 19-15 in conference play.
In game one,
Summer Ambler gave Spring Arbor an early spark with a solo home run in the first inning. The Cougars added two more runs in the third to extend the lead to 3-0.
SAU broke the game open in the sixth, scoring five runs to pull away.
Nicole Barbeau,
Grace Luby and
Brooke Meeker each delivered RBI hits in the inning.
Ambler led the offense, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Meeker,
Grace Lentz and
Lexi Cain each added two hits.
Emilee Underwood was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete game shutout while allowing just three hits and striking out four.
In game two, the Cougar bats stayed hot, scoring 15 runs on 11 hits, highlighted by a 10-run second inning.
Luby went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, while
Anna Kemp added two hits, four RBIs and three runs scored. Ambler and Lentz also recorded two hits apiece, with Ambler scoring three times and driving in two.
Alexyn DuBois earned the win in the circle, allowing four runs on four hits while striking out two over five innings.
Spring Arbor will wrap up the regular season at home on Saturday, April 25, hosting Mount Vernon Nazarene University with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
