Cougars Drop Doubleheader to IWU

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University softball team dropped both games of a Crossroads League doubleheader to Indiana Wesleyan University on Friday, falling 1-0 in the opener and 11-2 in game two.

With the results, the Cougars are now 20-14 overall and 11-9 in conference play.

Game one featured a tightly contested pitching duel between Emilee Underwood and Indiana Wesleyan's Isabelle Beidelschies. Both pitchers went the distance, but Indiana Wesleyan was able to push across the game's lone run in the fourth inning.

Spring Arbor recorded seven hits but was unable to capitalize, leaving runners on base in multiple scoring opportunities. Nicole Barbeau led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance, while Grace Luby added two hits, including a double. Underwood allowed just one run on seven hits while striking out four.

In game two, Indiana Wesleyan broke things open with a six-run third inning after holding a narrow 1-0 lead through two.

Barbeau stayed hot at the plate with a triple – she has now hit safely in 19 of her last 20 games – while also scoring a run. Summer Ambler added a hit, a run and an RBI for the Cougars.

Spring Arbor returns to action on Tuesday, April 7, traveling to face University of Saint Francis.
