SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University baseball team kept its postseason run alive on Friday, defeating the University of Saint Francis 6-2 in Crossroads League Tournament action.
Spring Arbor wasted no time getting on the board, scoring two runs in the first inning behind a two-RBI double from
Joey Tessmer.
Starting pitcher
Jack Will set the tone on the mound, tossing six scoreless innings to open the game and keeping the Saint Francis offense in check.
The Cougars added to their lead in the seventh inning when
Nate Dutkowski delivered an RBI triple to make it 3-0.
Saint Francis responded in the bottom half of the inning with two runs to cut the deficit to one, but Spring Arbor answered right back with three runs in the eighth to regain control.
Tessmer led the offense, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.
Connor Reed and
Aiden Brunin each scored twice, while Dutkowski drove in two runs.
Will earned the win, allowing two runs on two hits over 6.1 innings while striking out four.
Jared Plane closed the door with 2.2 shutout innings, striking out three to earn the save.
Spring Arbor will face Indiana Wesleyan University in an elimination game on Saturday, May 2 at 11 a.m.
