ALBION, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's tennis team recorded six victories at the Albion Doubles Tournament, led by a runner-up finish from Koop and
Erik Alday Morales in the A draw.
Koop and Alday Morales won their first two matches before falling in the championship match.
Landon Schroeder and
Hudson Valentine added a third-place finish in the B draw as the Cougars finished the event with a combined 6–6 record.
Koop and Alday Morales opened with a 6–4 victory over Olivet's Anderson/Wright and defeated Albion's Schultz/Johnson by the same score in the semifinals. Albion's Pettit/Plaskewicz claimed the title with a 6–2 win in the final.
Jack Nicklas and
Nolan Hill also advanced to the A semifinals after defeating Albion's Kubiak/McKendry 7–5. The SAU pair finished fourth, narrowly dropping the third-place match to Schultz/Johnson 7–6 (1).
In the B draw, Schroeder and Valentine defeated Alma's Laxton/Hill 7–5 in their opening match. After a semifinal loss to Albion's Beard/Mojica, they secured third place with a 6–3 victory over Olivet's Brown/Wolfe to finish 2–1.
Jason Gonerka and
Nick Schefka closed the tournament with a 6–0 win over Olivet's Brege/Cox in the seventh-place match.
Through the Hope Invitational and Albion Doubles Tournament, Spring Arbor's doubles pairs have combined for a 12–12 record.
Spring Arbor will travel to Marion, Indiana for the ITA Regional Tournament on Sept. 23-26.
