SAU Falls in Semi-Finals

The Spring Arbor University women's soccer team fell to rival Indiana Wesleyan University in an aggressive match for the chance to play in the MCC Conference Tournament final on Saturday. The Cougars traveled to Marion, Indiana playing without four regular season starters due to injury. In a physical contest, the Cougars came out on the bottom end of a one goal, double overtime loss. Indiana Wesleyan will now play Marian University for the title of the MCC Conference Tournament champion.

In a hard hitting match-up both teams competed to gain control of the game but were unable to create many goal scoring opportunities. Going into the second half scoreless, Spring Arbor goal keeper Christina Riske made an important save that led the Cougars into an overtime battle of wills. After the first and second overtimes remained scoreless into the final minute of play, both teams were expecting a shoot-out to decide the fate of the teams. With only 31 seconds left on the clock the Wildcats were able to finish a lofted cross to deal Spring Arbor a 0-1 loss.

"I am proud of how hard we competed," commented head coach Jason Crist. "We put our best effort on to the field Saturday and to have the game end that way is unfortunate."

The Cougars will now compete for the opportunity to represent Spring Arbor at the NCCAA National Tournament in a play-off game against Grace College. Earlier in the season SAU and Grace tied in a 1-1 double overtime match.
