The Lady Cougar women's soccer team showed no mercy with a 4-1 victory over the Aquinas Saints. SAU dominated the majority of the play and worked through two physically demanding halves to come out with the win putting the team 2-3-1 for the season.
In the first minutes of play, junior forward Ali Nichols connected the end of a cross from junior defender Rachel Sinkovitz, heading the ball into the back of the Saints' net. Four minutes later, Sinkovitz again got involved in the attack and volleyed the ball into the net off a cross from senior forward Heidi Sharp. Twelve minutes into the high scoring match, Sharp was fouled just outside the box and bent the ball around the Saints' wall to score the third goal for the Lady Cougars. The Saints continued to pressure the SAU defense and Bri Hill was able to sneak one past the keeper in the eighteenth minute. The Cougars did not ease up on the attack and junior Joy Duckworth scored the first goal of her college career and the final goal of the game in off a sequence of passes from Alyssa Curtis and Jenna Bigger.
SAU was able to keep control of the game and finish their chances against the Aquinas Saints. Although it was a tough and physical game, the Cougars were determined to make a statement and didn't slow off the attack to come out with a 4-1 win.
"Although it wasn't a pretty game, the girls showed today that we can finish the ball," commented head coach Crist. "When we are able to combine our scoring potential with composure on the ball, we will be at our best."
