The men's tennis team got a strong start in the season-ending MCC tournament by defeating Marian 8-1. The Cougars were the #3 seed, while Marian was the #6 seed so SAU was the favorite but when SAU hosted Marian 4 weeks ago the Cougars won by a much smaller margin, squeaking out a 5-4 victory.
It all started with doubles for the Cougars where they won all 3 doubles points.
David Darling &
Rafael Schuster and
Chris Swank &
Tim Smolen were especially dominating, both teams winning by 8-3 scores. In the singles
Nathan Scholten and
Andrew DeBruyn were able to turn the tables on their opponent who had beaten them during the regular season.
Tim Smolen also beat a player at #6 singles who had won against the Cougars earlier in the season.
The Cougars will next play Taylor University Friday morning where the Cougars hope to avenge a close loss that occurred one week ago in Upland.
