After a slow start, the Spring Arbor University women's soccer team kicked things into gear in the second half to secure a 3-0 shutout victory over Bethel College on Friday night.
In spite of a 12-5 bulge in shots in the opening half, Spring Arbor was unable to solve Pilot netminder Kayt Coulter and was forced to settle for a 0-0 stalemate heading into the intermission.
The Cougars made some halftime adjustments that did not take long to have an affect on the game.
Just a minute and a half after the break, Spring Arbor freshman
Olivia Clark took a pass from sophomore
Karly Linton and cut back on her defender before besting Coulter to the lower left side of the net. Almost exactly ten minutes later Clark found a second opening on the end of a
Megan Wegener corner kick and buried an insurance goal past Coulter with her right foot.
Linton put the icing on the cake int he 81st minute when sophomore
Ashley DeNio found her behind the Pilot's left back. Linton beat the covering center back and then dribbled Coulter before slotting home into an empty net for her seventh goal of the season.
The Cougars finished the match witha 20-8 bulge in shots and an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Brooklyn Morgan went the distance in net for SAU registering her second straight shutout.
NAIA #11 Spring Arbor (11-1-1) will welcome Taylor University to campus for their first night game in the history of the women's program on Tuesday night. The match will kick off at 7:00 p.m.
