After playing to a 1-1 draw in their opener, the Spring Arbor University women's soccer team has rattled off four straight wins, outscoring their opponents 14-1 over that stretch.
The Lady Cougar's latest victim was former WHAC foe Aquinas College, who traveled to SAU's campus Wednesday for a 5:00 p.m. face off.
Spring Arbor missed a pair of golden opportunities early in the match before
Karly Linton finally connected for the game winner in the 30th minute. Linton took a clever through ball from junior
Maegan Smith and fired a rocket over the top of the Saints goalkeeper into the right corner of the net. The marker was Linton's third of the season.
The two teams headed into the halftime break with Spring Arbor holding a 1-0 lead and a 10-6 edge in shots.
Linton picked up right where she left off after the break, connecting with a
Megan Colby corner kick in the 48th minute and snapping a header to the back post to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
SAU didn't pick up the third and final tally until the 83rd minute when
Maegan Smith beat a pair of Saints around the corner and drew the goalkeeper to the near post before threading a perfect pass back across the net to freshman
Amanda Curtis who was waiting to tap in her first collegiate goal and put the game out of reach.
The Cougars dominated the stat sheet, out shooting the visiting Saints 23-8 on the afternoon. SAU also enjoyed a 9-1 bulge in corners kicks.
The ladies won't have much time to enjoy their victory, as they will travel to Marion Indiana on Friday to take on Georgetown College in the opening round of the Wildcat Classic being hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University. On Saturday the Cougars will face off with Roberts Wesleyan College who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA national polls. Both games will kick off at 5:00 p.m.EST.
