MARION, IN - In order to advance to the Crossroads League
championship, Spring Arbor's women's tennis team had to do something that no
other team has been able to do all year long;
They had to beat the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats.
The ladies put up a good fight, and battled on every point,
but the Wildcats were too much for the Cougars to handle as IWU shut out Spring
Arbor 9-0 to end the Cougars fall season.
The loss ended one of the better seasons for the Lady
Cougars finishing the fall season at 7-4 including six straight wins leading up
to the Indiana Wesleyan match.
Spring Arbor's Quincy Banini, playing #4 singles had the
closest match of the day giving Lauren Wilson of IWU all she could handle before
eventually losing 7-5, 7-6 (9-7). Banini
is in her first year of college tennis and has adapted well to the college
game. This fall, Banini's singles record
is an impressive 9-2 and 6-5 in doubles giving her a 15-7 win-loss record.
Kristin DeBruyn was an even 11-11 during the fall season as
she played the #1 singles and #1 doubles positions. Hope Roelofs (#2 singles, #1 Doubles) ended
the fall season with a 13-9 mark. Both Jenna
Bart (#3 singles, #3 doubles) and Katie Storrer (#6 singles, #3 doubles) were over the .500 mark at 12-10.
Kelli Cross (#5 singles, #2 doubles) was at 5-11, and Paige
Fallu (#2 doubles) finished the fall at 4-2.
"This was a really fun season with the girls," said Coach,
Peggy Calderone. "They gave 100% every
match and never quit. I couldn't be more
proud of them, not just today, but all season."
