Men's Tennis Pick Up Where They Left Off


ALMA, MI - The Cougar tennis team started the spring season indoors at Alma College and the guys picked up where they left off in the fall defeating Alma College 7-2. Spring Arbor opened up the NAIA Pre-Season ranking at #25 receiving 44 points.

David Darling continued his dominance at the #1 singles spot defeating Alma's Josh Grove 6-2, 6-0. Thomas Calderone, Aaron Mayes, Andrew DeBruyn and Tim Smolen all won singles matches.

On the doubles side, Calderone and Mayes teamed up at #1 doubles position and grabbed the win 8-4 while David Darling and Nathan Scholten paired to win at #2 doubles 8-2.

The win was the 12th straight for the Cougars including the fall season which saw Spring Arbor go a perfect 11-0 and sail through the MCC Conference.

Next up for SAU is the University of Northwestern Ohio who also received votes in the NAIA ranking. The Racers totaled 42 points in the poll, falling just short of the top 25. The match takes place on Saturday, February 25 at 1:00 in Lima, OH.
