Good Leads Women's Soccer Past Indiana Wesleyan

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Sophomore Corrie Good registered one goal and three assists to lead the 7th ranked Spring Arbor University women's soccer team to a 5-3 victory over Indiana Wesleyan University in the Crossroads League Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday night.

The top-seeded Cougars (16-1-1, 9-0 Crossroads League) advance and will host fifth-seeded Taylor University (8-6-4, 4-4-1 Crossroads League) in the semifinals next Saturday.

Good helped get the scoring started in the 22nd minute when she connected with junior Kristina Sobel. The Caledonia, Michigan native shook a pair of defenders inside the 18 before finding Sobel, who fired a shot to the far post past the IWU goalkeeper to put the Cougars on top.

Good would find the back of the net herself just over three minutes later to double the SAU advantage. After taking a pass from freshman Jacquelyn Martin, the Crossroads League Co-Offensive Player of the Year got past a defender with some nice footwork and ripped a shot to the far post out of the reach of the diving keeper.

After taking their 2-0 lead into halftime, Spring Arbor looked like they had put the match out of reach early in the second period when senior Clara Williams tallied the third goal of the night in the 51st minute.

However, the Wildcats (4-13-1, 3-5-1 Crossroads League) would not go away without a fight, scoring their first goal in the 57th minute and their second in the 76th on a penalty kick.

Less than a minute later, though, the Cougars would earn a PK of their own. The conference's Player of the Year Courtney Harrison was called upon to take the kick, and the senior calmly buried her shot into the left corner to put SAU back up by two 4-2 at the 76:51 mark.

The scoring flurry would continue as Good linked up with freshman Aubrey Schierbeek just 55 seconds later to extend the lead back to three. Indiana Wesleyan tacked on one more goal in the 80th minute, but it would not be enough as the Cougars held on for the 5-3 win.

Spring Arbor dominated the match, outshooting the Wildcats 25-6, putting 13 shots on target. Goalkeeper Sarah Yancer finished the night with three saves.
