ALMA, MI – Still with several feet of snow on the ground, the men's tennis team headed north, yes north, to Alma, MI to open their spring season against Alma College. Shaking the rust off was the first order of business and it may take a while as Alma College got the upper hand in a 7-2 decision over the Cougars with Jesse DeBoer and Andrew Fitzpatrick picked up the wins for Spring Arbor.
Playing indoors in the Stone Recreation Center on the Alma College Campus, the Cougars fell behind early with straight set losses at 1, 2, 4, and 5 singles. DeBoer won his match over Alma's Grant Hill 7-6(4) - 6-2 and Fitzpatrick won in three sets 2-6, 6-3, 10-5.
All three doubles matches fell to the Scots.
Spring Arbor drops to 3-7 for the year, and Alma picked up their first win in five matches.
The Cougars will travel to Adrian, MI on Thursday, February 20 for a match with Adrian College at 3:00
