ALBION, MI – Spring Arbor men's tennis team continues to shake off the rust from a long, cold winter and dropped a close 6-3 match to local rival, Albion College on Thursday night on the campus of the Britons.
SAU took a 2-1 lead through the doubles play with Matt Wojtkowski and Jesse DeBoer winning at #1 doubles 8-6 and Drew Herlein and Michael Darling took their match handily at 8-2.
The momentum shifted heading into the singles play and Michael Darling was the only Cougar to take a point as he defeated his opponent at #5 singles in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
Jesse DeBoer and Drew Herlein both lost very close matches and could have caused a different outcome in the match. DeBoer fell 7-6 (7-6), 7-5 and Herlein dropped his match 7-5, 7-6 (7-1)
Spring Arbor will play next on Hilton Head Island, SC on March 10 against Milligan College.
