SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The 14th ranked Spring Arbor University women's soccer team bounced back from its loss to No. 3 Lindsey Wilson College over the weekend by handing a solid Concordia University squad its first loss of the season on Wednesday, defeating the Cardinals 2-0.
The win improved the Cougars to 3-1-0 on the year while Concordia fell to 3-1-1.
Despite dominating play for the majority of the match, the Cougars had nothing to show for their efforts, until the reigning Crossroads League Co-Defensive Player of the Week made a huge play on the offensive end. In the 75th minute, senior Courtney Harrison broke the scoreless deadlock with her first goal of the season, punching in a loose ball in front of the goal off a corner kick from freshman Sarah Klunder.
The Cougars added to their lead seven minutes later when sophomore Corrie Good fed Aubrey Schierbeek at the top of the 18-yard box and the freshman displayed some nice footwork dribbling around the diving Cardinal keeper before delivering her shot into a wide open net.
Spring Arbor outshot the visitors 30-3 in the match and held a 6-0 edge in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Sarah Yancer recorded one save on the night.
The Cougars will play their next four matches away from their home field beginning with a trip to Aquinas College on Saturday, Sept. 6. The opening kick is slated for 4 p.m.
