GOSHEN, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University men's tennis team's season came to a close Tuesday with an 8-1 setback at Goshen College in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals.
Goshen (11-1, 7-1 CL), the tournament's No. 2 seed, began the afternoon with a sweep of all three doubles matches. Juniors Vincent McShane and Jacob Byrd won the first four games at the No. 2 position, but the Maple Leafs would rally back to win 8-6. Senior Jesse DeBoer and freshman Nick Romano also battled hard at No. 1, but would ultimately fall 8-5.
DeBoer picked up the lone singles win for the Cougars at the No. 1 spot. After winning the first set in a tiebreak, GC's Jon Kaasa answered by winning set two in a tiebreak forcing a third-set super-tiebreaker which DeBoer pulled out 10-8.
Spring Arbor finished the fall season with a 2-7 record.
