SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team suffered its third straight defeat on Saturday, falling to Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Crossroads League action.
Spring Arbor held MVNU to just 18 points through the first 20 minutes, but the visiting Cougars erupted for 49 in the second half to stun SAU.
Mount Vernon Nazarene (5-5, 1-2 CL) shot just 14 percent (4-for-28) in the opening period but scorched the nets shooting at a 57 percent (16-for-28) clip in the second. Spring Arbor finished hitting 38 percent (24-for-63) of its attempts. The visitors also converted on 22-for-29 shots from the free throw line compared to SAU's 7-for-14 from the stripe.
Three Cougars scored in double figures led by freshman Anthony Qasawa with 14 points. Qasawa also added six rebounds and three assists. Senior Greg Hamilton followed with 13 points and junior Caleb Hogans chipped in 11 off the bench. Junior Thomas Starks hauled in a team-high eight rebounds to go along with three points.
Spring Arbor (4-5, 0-3 CL) will visit Siena Heights University (4-5) on Monday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
