MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team fell to Mount Vernon Nazarene University 87-47 on the road in Crossroads League action on Saturday.
Junior Caleb Hogans matched his career-high with 25 points to pace the Cougars. Hogans made a career-best 11 field goals while also finishing with four steals and three assists. Sophomore Zach Medendorp followed with nine points and senior Greg Hamilton chipped in five.
Mount Vernon Nazarene (11-11, 3-7 CL) led 23-13 midway through the first half, but five straight points from Hogans closed the gap to five, 23-18. However, with the Cougars trailing 27-20 and 7:41 remaining in the period, MVNU would increase its lead to double-digits with a 12-2 run over a four minute span.
After taking a 44-29 advantage into halftime, Mount Vernon Nazarene opened the second stanza with another lengthy scoring run to stretch its lead to 24, and would cruise to the victory.
Up next, Spring Arbor (6-16, 0-10 CL) will host Goshen College (12-10, 4-6 CL) on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. Head coach Ryan Cottingham and his staff will be wearing sneakers with their usual game attire as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness Week to help raise awareness about the fight against cancer. All proceeds from the game will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
