MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Sophomore Bethany Balcer set a new program record with six goals to lead the No. 1 ranked Spring Arbor University women's soccer team to an 11-1 Crossroads League victory over Bethel College on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Balcer, who leads the Crossroads League in points (25) and goals (18), found the back of the net four times in the first half, including twice in the first six minutes of the match. Aubrey Schierbeek would also add a goal in the opening stanza to give SAU a 5-0 advantage at halftime.
- The second half began much like the first with Balcer tallying her fifth goal of the evening less than five minutes into the period.
- Bethel got on the scoreboard in the with a goal from Jessi Fry in the 62nd minute, but less than a minute later Sarah Klunder found Annika Hoekstra to push the Cougar lead to 8-1.
- Balcer notched her sixth marker of the night in the 78th minute while Kendra Spencer and Kaley Buck rounded out the scoring.
- Spring Arbor finished the match with 29 shots, including 19 on goal, while limiting the hosts to just two attempts.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- Balcer's six goals were the most scored in a single game since Karly Linton registered four in an 8-0 win over Marygrove College on Sept. 4, 2013.
- Balcer not only leads the Crossroads League in points and goals, but ranks third and fifth nationally in the two categories.
- With the win, Spring Arbor remains at the top of the league standings, one point ahead of second place Taylor University. The Cougars can clinch their sixth straight regular season conference title with a win in the regular season finale on Saturday.
FOR THE FOES
- Fry and Kama Hardy were the only two Pilots to record a shot in the contest. The goal by Fry was her second of the campaign.
- Goalkeeper Allie Smith finished the night with eight saves.
UP NEXT
Spring Arbor will close out the regular season at home against Marian University (10-6-1, 5-2-1 CL) on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. With a win, the Cougars will secure their sixth consecutive Crossroads League regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming league tournament.
