Kyser posts season-high blocks as Volleyball falls in four to MVNU

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Junior Courtney Kyser tallied a season-high 10 blocks, but the Spring Arbor University volleyball team came up short against Mount Vernon Nazarene University, falling 3-1.

MATCH BREAKDOWN

  • SET SCORES: 25-11, 22-25, 25-20, 25-16
  • Mount Vernon Nazarene, which is receiving votes in the Top 25 poll and currently sits in second place in the Crossroads League standings, opened the match strong claiming the first set.
  • Spring Arbor responded though with a second set win to level the score. Rebekah Kujat and Kyser recorded four kills each in the frame to pace the offense while Kyser made a huge impact at the net, notching five blocks.
  • The Cougars carried the momentum over into the third set, jumping out to a 6-3 lead. SAU would continue to lead until midway through the frame when MVNU used a 7-0 run to take control.
  • In the fourth set, the visitors won the first five points and never looked back on the way to clinching the match.
  • Kujat finished the night with 12 kills while Kyser and Kasey Follis totaled seven each.
  • Annica Stotz came close to a double-double with 25 assists and nine digs.
  • Three Cougars finished with double figure digs, including Leah Rose and Gabrielle Hilliard, who posted 14 apiece. Laura Hardy closed the match with 11 digs.
  • Along with Kyser's 10 blocks, Kujat and Follis added four each as the Cougars recorded a season-best 14 total blocks.

 
 

FOR THE FOES

  • Annelise Rohrer netted a match-high 20 kills while also recording 16 digs to pace MVNU. Setter Bridget Troyer also registered a double-double with 29 assists and 11 digs.
  • Ashley Gingerich led a group of four Cougars with double-digit digs with 29.

 
 

UP NEXT

Spring Arbor will play its next six matches away from its home court beginning with a non-conference contest at Siena Heights University on Monday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
