HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Spring Arbor got on the scoreboard with a goal by Lauren Orr in the 10th minute. A corner kick by Sarah Klunder was headed back across the goal where it was finished into the back of the net by Orr.
  • The Cougars continued to apply intense pressure, but the Maple Leafs' Natalie Thorne would come up big making five stops over the next 30 minutes to keep the score at 1-0.
  • The Spring Arbor attack managed to crack the Goshen defense late in the period, however, tacking on two more goals in the final six minutes to push the lead to 3-0 heading into halftime. Bethany Balcer ripped a left-footed shot from 20 yards out past the GC netminder in the 40th minute before Renee Broekhuizen slipped a shot through in the 44th minute with an assist from Jacquelyn Martin.
  • In the second half, SAU would capitalize on another corner kick opportunity to add to its advantage in the 68th minute. This time Klunder found Balcer in front of the goal, and she would head it past the keeper for her second tally of the afternoon.
  • Broekhuizen capped the scoring with her second marker of the day, a blast from outside the 18, in the 76th minute.
  • Spring Arbor finished with a 31-1 shot advantage and accumulated 13 corner kicks to Goshen's two.
