Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Big second half fuels Cougars win

KOKOMO, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team traveled to Kokomo, Indiana Tuesday night for the second of their three game road trip to play Indiana University Kokomo. The Cougars final tune up game prior to playing No. 1 ranked University of Saint Francis did not disappoint.

A sluggish first half for Spring Arbor was erased as it exploded offensively for 46 points in the second half, fueled by a 16-5 run to open the frame. The Cougars regained the lead for good on a pair of Tommy Hamilton free throws at the 10 minute mark of the stanza and never looked back holding on for a 73-65 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first half was back and forth for almost the entirety as the teams exchanged the lead six times. The Cougars' 33-27 halftime deficit was due to an IU Kokomo 8-0 run fueled by forward Eric Miller, who scored seven points in the stretch.
  • The visiting Cougars were able to hang around in the first half, despite their seven turnovers, in large part due to 14 points from Caleb Hogans.
  • Spring Arbor came out inspired to start the second half as it went on a 16-5 run to open the frame.
  • Jeff Beckman came off the bench for the Cougars and provided an immediate spark, scoring six straight points and cleaning up a couple key boards helping extend the lead to 58-54.
  • SAU made some key free throws late to hang on for a 73-65 hard-fought contest.
  • Spring Arbor had three players in double figures led by Hogans' 22. Paul Marandet and Xavier Prather had 14 and 11, respectively.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • Hogans led the way offensively, once again, for the Cougars. He was 8-for-13 shooting on the night and 4-for-7 from deep. He also notched six boards from the guard position.

  • Spring Arbor shot 47 percent from the field while holding IU Kokomo to 35 percent on the night.

FOR INDIANA KOKOMO
