Townsley drops 28 to power SAU to win over Rochester

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Spring Arbor University received a standout performance from senior guard Kylie Townsley, who matched her career-high with 28 points in the Cougars' 89-62 win over Rochester College on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Spring Arbor started slow hitting just 4-of-16 shots in the first quarter, but the Cougars found their rhythm in the second period as they began to pull away.
  • Clinging to a slim 23-22 advantage over the visiting Warriors midway through the second period, Aimee Konkel buried a three-pointer to spark a 19-6 run to end the quarter. Townsley finished with 12 points in the quarter, including the last seven for the Cougars, to give SAU a 42-28 lead at halftime.
  • The Cougars quickly pushed the lead to 20 in the third quarter and would cruise to their second straight win to start the season.
  • Townsley finished 9-for-18 from the floor and 9-for-11 from the free throw line. She also added three rebounds and one steal to her 28 points.
  • Autumn Goggin posted the first double-double of her career with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Konkel also ended the night in double figure scoring with points 13 going 4-for-7 from behind the arc. Rachel Driesenga ripped down a game-high 11 boards to go along with four points, three steals and two assists.
  • Spring Arbor shot 40 percent (30-for-74) from the floor while holding Rochester to 31 percent (21-for-67), including a dismal 3-for-19 from long range.
  • The Cougars also forced the Warriors into 21 giveaways, which they turned into 18 points.

 
 

FOR THE WARRIORS

  • Devan Valko and Keearra Brown paced Rochester with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
  • Three different Warriors finished with three assists while Skye Donaldson grabbed 10 rebounds.
  • The 31 percent shooting was a season-low for Rochester, which dropped its second straight contest following a 3-0 start to the campaign.

 
 

UP NEXT

The unbeaten Cougars will look to remain perfect on the young season when they host Siena Heights University (0-0) on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
