SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team had its five game win streak snapped, falling to Albion College 80-75 on Monday night.
Tied at 75-75 with under a minute to play, Albion held for the last shot. A loose ball scramble ended up in the hands of Britons forward Adam Davis, who threw up a wild shot with 0.07 seconds left on the clock and was fouled. Davis missed the first but made the second. The Cougars had one chance, but a controversial no-call on the inbound play sealed the home team's fate as the Britons held on for the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars jumped out to a quick lead sparked by Caleb Hogans as he finished a tough bucket and the foul to push the lead to 10-0.
- The Britons answered back with eight quick ones of their own to cut the lead to two, 10-8. The teams would settle in offensively and go back and forth for the remainder of the half.
- The Britons looked to pull away at the end of the half as they went on an 8-0 run to push their lead seven at 37-30, their largest lead of the half.
- However, the Cougars responded immediately as they ended the half on a 10-2 run as Jeff Beckman finished off a beautiful and-one with 0.09 seconds left to give the home team the lead at the break, 40-39.
- The second half picked up right where the first ended, hard-fought basketball. The teams would go back and forth until the Cougars got hot as Beckman made a pair of free throws with 9:38 remaining to give the home team their biggest lead of the half at 61-54.
- Albion responded once again with a 7-0 run capped by a huge three-pointer from guard Jaylin Fordham to tie it 61-61 with 7:39 left in the contest. Fordham was 7-for-10 from deep on the night.
- The teams traded buckets the rest of the night. The Cougars found themselves down one with 25 seconds left on the clock when freshman guard Paul Marandet was fouled. He would split the pair at the line to tie it a 75-75.
- Albion held for the last shot. Their offensive set was initially blocked, but a loose ball scramble ended up in the hands of Britons' forward Adam Davis, who threw up a wild shot with 0.07 seconds left on the clock and was fouled. A couple late technical fouls on the Cougars allowed the Britons to push their lead to five and give them the 80-75 win.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- The loss snaps the Cougars longest win streak in over two years when they started the 2014 campaign 6-0.
- SAU had three in double figures as Marandet led the way with 17. Hogans and Drew Zuidema had 16 and 12, respectively.
- The home team turned the ball over an uncanny 15 times that led to 18 Briton points. The Cougars, however, dominated in the paint, outscoring Albion 32-20.
FOR THE BRITONS
- The Britons shot the lights out from deep hitting 14-of-27 attempts on their way to shooting 47 percent overall.
- Albion, for the second year in a row, beat the Cougars on the last possession of the game, as they hit a buzzer-beater the previous year to win.
- The visitors were led by Fordham, who dropped 33 on the night. The Britons had one other in double figures as Mitchell Rubio had 11 on the night.
