INDIANAPOLIS – Despite a strong start to the game, the Spring Arbor University women's basketball team dropped a Crossroads League matchup to No. 3 ranked Marian University 79-52 on Saturday in Indianapolis.
After falling behind 4-0, the Cougars answered back with a 16-3 run to grab a nine-point advantage midway through the first quarter. Sophomore Autumn Goggin sparked the run with a three-pointer, and junior Kylie Townsley followed with the next eight points. After sophomore Faith Johnson sank a pair of free throws, Goggin capped the scoring spurt with another triple.
Spring Arbor would continue to lead well into the second period a late run by Marian () gave the home team a slight 32-27 edge at the half.
Buckets from Townsley and Johnson to open the third quarter trimmed the deficit to one, however, the league-leading Knights would respond with 10 straight points and never look back en route to their 17th consecutive win.
Goggin led the way for the Cougars with 14 points while Townsley finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. Johnson and freshman Ryann Laier followed with seven points apiece. Junior Rachel Driesenga contributed five points and five boards.
