SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team fell to No. 3 ranked University of Saint Francis (Ind.) 88-69 on Tuesday night at the Hutzell Athletic Center.
Freshman Anthony Qasawa finished with a game-high 20 points – his third 20-point performance this season. Junior Caleb Hogans also scored in double figures netting 11 points to go along with a team-high seven rebounds.
Qasawa opened the scoring knocking down a three-pointer to give SAU the early lead, but Saint Francis (23-4, 13-2 CL) answered with 14 straight points and would never trail again. The home team led by as many as 15 in the first half, but the Cougars put together a late 14-7 run, punctuated with a three from Hogans with less than a minute remaining, to close the gap to eight, 33-25.
Spring Arbor made its first five field goals to open the second half to stay within striking distance. However, the Cougars were unable to slow down one of the Crossroads League's most explosive teams as Saint Francis would use a 15-4 run to pull away and hang on for its sixth consecutive victory.
The hosts shot nearly 50 percent (32-for-65) on the night while SAU connected on 41 percent (27-for-66) of its field goal attempts.
Sophomore Drew Zuidema scored nine points off the bench and senior Greg Hamilton added eight. Freshmen Tommy Hamilton and Luke Barber chipped in five points apiece while sophomore Isaiah Ingles dished out three assists.
Spring Arbor (6-21, 0-15 CL) will return home to host No. 18 Marian University (19-8, 7-8 CL) on Saturday, Feb. 13 and Huntington University (13-13, 7-7 CL) on Tuesday, Feb. 16 in its final home contests of the season.
