SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – After falling to Grace College on Friday, the Spring Arbor University volleyball team bounced back with a hard-fought match against Huntington University on Saturday. The Foresters, however, would narrowly escape with a four-set win over the Cougars.
MATCH 1 (GRACE)
FINAL SCORE: Spring Arbor 0, Grace 3
LOCATION: SAU Fieldhouse
RECORDS: Spring Arbor 2-8 (0-6 CL), Grace 7-8 (2-4 CL)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- SET SCORES: 25-22, 25-15, 25-22
- The first set went back and forth much of the way, but with the score tied 21-21, Grace used a 4-1 run to secure the opening frame.
- In the second set, the Lancers would notch eight of the last nine points to take control of the match.
- Late in the third set, a kill from Kasey Follis put SAU up 19-17, but the visitors would come storming back. Grace tallied four unanswered points to regain the lead and would not give it up.
- Rebekah Kujat finished with 13 kills while Alyssa Walker and Follis chipped in four apiece.
- Annica Stotz and Follis combined for 26 assists. Stotz also added two aces and eight digs.
- Mackay Heasley led the way defensively with 11 digs while Courtney Kyser had four blocks.
MATCH 2 (HUNTINGTON)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- SET SCORES: 25-22, 20-25, 27-25, 27-25
- The match between the Cougars and Foresters was extremely tight with three of the four sets decided by three points or less, including two sets needing extra points.
- After dropping the opener, SAU responded with a big win in set two. With the Foresters ahead 11-8, the Cougars used a 6-2 run to grab a 14-12 advantage, and they would never trail again. The visitors closed the gap to 21-19 late, but a kill from Olivia Landis sparked a run of four straight points for the Cougars and Walker would close out the frame with back-to-back kills.
- In the pivotal third set, the two sides went back and forth trading the lead 10 different times. Spring Arbor was a point away from taking a two-sets-to-one advantage, but HU fought off set-point before ultimately rallying back to claim the set 27-25.
- The Foresters looked to have things under control in the fourth set, jumping out to an 18-12 lead. But, the Cougars refused to go down without a fight, using a 6-1 run to get within two. Huntington managed to swing the momentum and boost their lead back to five, 24-19. However, SAU fought off match-point five times. Stotz would serve up five straight points while Kyser registered three consecutive blocks to keep the Cougars alive. Despite the valiant comeback, Huntington would regroup and tally three points in a row to close out the match.
- Stotz and Follis registered double-doubles to pace the Cougars. Follis finished with a season-high 25 assists with 12 digs.
- Kujat and Walker led the attack with 10 kills apiece – a season-high for Walker.
- Kyser finished with eight blocks while Maggie Watson and Landis added four each.
- Five Cougars recorded double-digit digs, led by Leah Rose with 17. Taylor Johnston scooped up 12 and Heasley and Stotz finished with 11.

Spring Arbor will visit Rochester College (8-12) in non-conference action on Wednesday, Sept. 21 before traveling to Crossroads League foe Goshen College (8-5, 3-2 CL) on Friday, Sept. 23.
