Second half surge powers Men's Soccer to victory

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Following a scoreless first 45 minutes, the No. 14 ranked Spring Arbor University men's soccer team erupted for four second half goals to earn their third straight victory Monday, defeating Trinity Christian College 4-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Storms in the area forced a lengthy delay before the start of the game.
  • Isiah Handspike made three first half saves to keep Trinity Christian off the scoreboard.
  • Spring Arbor broke the deadlock in the 55th minute with a goal from freshman Michael Procopio, the first of his career.
  • The Cougars would add two more goals over the next 10 minutes to take complete control. Morris Kamara continued his torrid start with his fifth goal of the season. Lewis Jones also found the back of the net with an assist from Jacob Crull.
  • Cole Russell capped the scoring in the 74th minute with his second tally in as many games.
  • Handspike finished with three saves and earned his first career shutout.
  • Spring Arbor outshot Trinity Christian 15-5 and recorded six corner kicks compared to the Trolls' three.

 
 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • This is the first 3-0 start for Spring Arbor since the 2014 season.
  • The Cougars have scored four goals in each of their first three matches.
  • Kamara currently leads the Crossroads League with five goals.

Spring Arbor will continue its road trip and head south to West Palm Beach, Florida to take on Keiser University (1-0) on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Following their match with the Seahawks, the Cougars will face off against Johnson & Wales University (1-1) on Friday, Sept. 1.
