SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University team saw a one-set lead slip away before prevailing in extra points of the fifth set to win a hard-fought Crossroads League match against Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Friday night inside the SAU Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- SET SCORES: 20-25, 34-32, 25-20, 21-25, 22-20
- Mount Vernon Nazarene used a late 7-2 run to claim the first set.
- Facing set point in the second, Spring Arbor responded with back-to-back kills to stay alive. The two teams continued to trade points before consecutive kills from Sydney Ritz and Alyssa Walker ended the marathon set.
- The Cougars never trailed in the set three on their way to claiming a two-sets-to-one advantage.
- In the fourth set, SAU built a 15-9 lead, but a lengthy run by MVNU would erase the deficit and even the match at two sets apiece.
- Mount Vernon Nazarene grabbed an early 4-1 lead in the decisive fifth set. Trailing 11-8, Spring Arbor claimed three consecutive points, punctuated by an ace from Leah Rose, to tie the score. The two rivals continued to go back and forth, as SAU fought off seven match points before kills from Ritz and Rose finished the match.
- Walker and Ritz led the way with 16 kills apiece. Three other Cougars also finished with double-figure kills, including Sarah Schmid with a season-high 13. Kasey Follis added 12 and Olivia Landis matched her career-high with 10.
- Annica Stotz recorded a double-double with 34 assists and 16 digs. Emily Martin also notched a double-double with 27 assists and 12 digs.
- Stephaney Fifield, the nation's leader in digs, ended the night with 39.
- Courtney Kyser finished with seven blocks to go along with six kills.
FOR MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE
- Four MVNU players finished with double-digit kills. Kristen Osborn paced the visitors with 15 while also adding 17 digs.
- Setter Katelyn Dufer also posted a double-double with 51 assists and 18 digs.
- The loss was the fifth straight for Mount Vernon Nazarene.
