Cougars fall in five sets to Taylor

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team lost in a heartbreaker Wednesday night, losing in five sets to Taylor University.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

  • After dropping the first set, the Cougars looked to find their groove and posted a dominant 25-11 second set win. SAU rode that momentum into the third set and fought off a late Taylor charge to take a 2-1 set lead.
  • Spring Arbor looked to clinch the match in the fourth set after erasing 22-18 deficit, but the Trojans refused to go away and won the final three points of the frame to force a decisive fifth set.
  • It was back and forth in the initial stages of the final set, but back-to-back TU kills sparked a 9-1 Trojan run that helped seal the match.
  • Four different Cougars had double-digit kills for SAU, with Sydney Ritz leading the way with 15. Kyara Black finished with 13 kills, Claudia Ellis had 11 kills to go along with a .435 hitting percentage and Maggie Watson matched her career-high with 10. Annica Stotz lead the team with 33 assists and Hope Notter added another 22. Olivia Slenk recorded three of the Cougars' six service aces on the night.
  • Stephaney Fifield picked up 35 digs while Slenk collected 18 and Paige Porter finished with 16. Black registered six blocks and Ellis and Kasey Follis were credited with five each.

 
 

UP NEXT

Spring Arbor will take the next week off before traveling to Mishawaka, Indiana to face off against the Bethel College Pilots (7-14, 4-9 CL) on Wednesday, Oct. 17. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start time.
