Volleyball falls to No. 22 IWU in league opener

MARION, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team suffered a 3-1 setback at the hands of No. 22 ranked Indiana Wesleyan University in its Crossroads League opener on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Spring Arbor opened its Crossroads League slate at the defending league champions, and No. 22 ranked Indiana Wesleyan Wednesday night.
  • The Wildcats claimed the first set of the evening, but the Cougars answered right back with a win in set two to even the match.
  • In the third set, IWU jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back.
  • After trailing 20-16 late in the fourth set, SAU battled back to even the score at 21-21, but the home team halted the run and recorded four of the next six points to close out the match.
  • Sydney Ritz and Macey Rupp had a team-high seven kills while Kyara Black and Maggie Watson followed with five and four, respectively. Setters Annica Stotz and Hope Notter combined for 27 assists. Stotz also added a pair of service aces.
  • Sophomore libero Stephaney Fifield posted a match-high 14 digs and Notter finished with nine. Black had a big night at the net with seven blocks.

 
 

UP NEXT

Spring Arbor will travel to Adrian, Michigan to compete in the Siena Heights University Invitational on Friday, Aug. 31 and Saturday, Sept. 1. On Friday, the Cougars will take on Robert Morris University (Ill.) at 2 p.m. and Calumet College of St. Joseph at 6 p.m. The tournament wraps up for SAU on Saturday with matches against Siena Heights at 9 a.m. and the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) at 11 a.m.
