Volleyball drops two at SHU Tournament

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team suffered back-to-back losses on the final day of the Siena Heights University Tournament.
 
Spring Arbor lost a tight match to host Siena Heights 3-1 (23-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-23) in its opening match of the day. The Cougars also dropped a 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 25-17) decision to undefeated Thomas More University later in the afternoon.
 
Alison Ford and McKenna Peters were named to the all-tournament team.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor claimed the first set, but Siena Heights rallied to win the next three – all decided by four points or less.
  • Alison Ford had a team-high 13 kills and a team-leading 23 digs.
  • Setter Hope Notter finished with 39 assists and 12 digs while also adding four blocks and two aces.
  • Frances Churchwell collected 22 digs and Claudia Ellis recorded eight blocks in addition to her seven kills.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Thomas More, which entered the match with a perfect 10-0 record, won the first set. But Spring Arbor defeated the Saints in the second set, handling Thomas More only its third set loss of the season.
  • Thomas More bounced back, however, escaping with wins in sets three and four.
  • Ford had 16 kills and McKenna Peters followed with 12. Ford also picked up 14 digs in the match.
  • Notter handed out 49 assists.
  • Emily Johnson recorded three aces and eight digs. Churchwell finished with a team-best 17 digs.
