SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – After more than 40 years leading the Spring Arbor University men's tennis program, Terry Darling's coaching career came to a close on Saturday in the team's final matches of the 2021-22 season.

Playing at home for the first time this spring, the Cougars dropped matches to Aquinas College and Cornerstone University by identical 5-2 scores.

Back in February, Darling announced his decision to step down following the season and hand the team off to his son, and current SAU Director of Tennis, David Darling.

Under Terry Darling's direction, the men's tennis program accumulated over 400 wins, three regular season conference championships and five conference tournament championships. Along with the team's success, Darling garnered four conference coach of the year awards while also being named the NAIA regional coach of the year in 2007 and the ITA regional coach of the year in 2012.
