Volleyball takes down Taylor

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team picked up a 3-1 Crossroads League victory over visiting Taylor University on Wednesday night inside the McDonald Athletic Center.
 
The Cougars improve to 12-10 overall and are currently fifth in the league standings with a 6-5 record.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor and Taylor were tied 22-22 in the first set before back-to-back kills from Kendall Bollenbacher helped the Cougars take set one.
  • A 7-0 run in set two, punctuated by a kill from Natasha Bickel, gave SAU a 16-8 advantage. The Trojans battled back late to make it close, but blocks by Mikenna Kwiatkowski and Abigail Fernihough, followed by an ace from Keely Hinzman, propelled the Cougars to a 2-0 set lead.
  • Taylor avoided the sweep with a win in set three, but Spring Arbor raced out to a commanding 12-1 lead in set four and held on to secure the match.
  • Bollenbacher had 13 kills and 19 digs. Kelsie Lilly and Hinzman followed with nine kills and eight kills, respectively. Fernihough finished with seven blocks while Frances Churchwell tallied 21 digs.

Spring Arbor will play non-conference matches against Madonna University and Indiana University Northwest at IU Northwest in Gary, Indiana on Saturday, Oct. 7.
