Cougars fall to Cornerstone in tightly-contested four-set matchup

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team dropped a four-set decision at Cornerstone University on Wednesday evening.

MATCH NOTES
  • The match opener with Cornerstone winning set one, but Spring Arbor controlled things in set two to even the score.
  • The Cougars fell behind 8-1 in the third set before rallying back to tie the score, 23-23. However, the Golden Eagles scored two straight points on back-to-back kills to claim the set.
  • In the fourth set, the score was 19-19 until Cornerstone went on a 3-0 run and held on to clinch the match.
  • Izzy Kirkendall finished with a season-high 12 kills to lead the way for the Cougars. Keely Hinzman followed with eight while Kelsie Lilly and Kendall Bollenbacher had seven apiece.
  • Camy Wedge and Gabby Bryja combined for 37 assists.
  • Natasha Bickel posted a team-high seven blocks to go along with five kills. Julia Mitchell and Hinzman added six blocks each.
 
 
UP NEXT
Spring Arbor will play in the Siena Heights Labor Day Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Cougars matchup against Lawrence Tech and Aquinas on Friday before meeting Calumet St. Joseph and Indiana Northwest on Saturday.
