Volleyball outlasts Bethel in five-set thriller

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team battled through another five-set match on Wednesday night, edging Bethel University 3-2 on the road to pick up its 21st win of the season.
 
The Cougars improved to 21-8 overall and 8-8 in the Crossroads League with the win, marking their fourth victory in the last five matches.

After dropping the opening set, the Cougars bounced back with a strong response — winning the next two behind efficient hitting and timely defense. Bethel forced a decisive fifth set, but SAU held its composure late, pulling out a 15-13 victory to seal the match.
 
Three Cougars finished with double-digit kills. Kendall Bollenbacher led the way with 14 while also adding 23 digs. Kelsie Lilly and Isabelle Kirkendall followed with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Keely Hinzman added eight kills to go along with five blocks. Camy Wedge dished out 36 assists and recorded 15 digs. Palmer Fortress anchored the defense with 25 digs.
 
Spring Arbor returns home Saturday, Nov. 1 to face No. 12 Mount Vernon Nazarene University starting at 3 p.m.
