SOUTH BEND, IN - The men's tennis team picked up where they left off in conference play. The defending Crossroads League champions crushed the Pilots of Bethel 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon in South Bend, IN. In regular season play, it is the 10th straight win for the Cougars.
In the nine matches, six singles, and three doubles matches, the Cougars would only lose 8 games the entire day.
Thomas Calderone (1 singles), Aaron Mayes (3 singles), and Nathan Scholten (4 singles) all picked up 6-0, 6-0 victories. The #3 doubles teams of John Hall and Jesse DeBoer (both Freshmen) won their match 8-0.
David Darling continued his dominate play with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #2 singles. This was Darling's 9th straight league win. He has not lost a conference match since September 30, 2010 when he fell 4-6, 5-7 to Felipe Bedon, Taylor's #1 singles phenom.
Michael Darling won at #5 singles 6-2, 6-1, and Matt Wojtkowski picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at the #6 singles spot.
In other doubles action, Calderone and Aaron Mayes paired together for a 8-2 win at the #1 doubles spot and David Darling and Scholten teamed up for am 8-1 win and the #2 spot.
The Cougars will stay on the road for a September 1 trip to Upland, IN to play Taylor University. The Saturday match will take place at 12:00pm.
