Men's Tennis pick up much needed win

GOSHEN, IN - The best thing that could have happened for the men's tennis team was to get a win and that's just what took place in Goshen, IN on Tuesday afternoon. The Cougars took a 7-2 win over the Maple Leafs as once again the top half of the lineup remained solid after Spring Arbor swept the three doubles points.

Thomas Calderone, David Darling, and Aaron Mayes all remain undefeated at 1, 2, and 3 singles respectively.

Calderone defeated Csaba Laszlo 7-5, 6-1, David Darling went three sets in beating Balazs Pirot 7-5, 6-7, 10-4, and Aaron Mayes dispatched Jon Kaasa 6-1, 6-1. Matt Wojtkowski won his match at #6 singles 6-3, 6-0.

The two matches that Goshen did win, the Cougars did not go quietly into the night. Nate Scholten and Michael Darling both went the full distance before eventually falling in three sets. Scholten's scores were 2-6, 6-1, 8-10, and Michael Darling left nothing on the court as well before losing 6-7, 6-4, 9-11.

The victory over Goshen improves SAU's record to 2-2 on the year.

The team will compete in the ITA's this weekend in Grand Rapids, MI The Tournament takes place starting Thursday, 9/13 - Saturday, 9/15.
